Dantia welcomes the NSW Government’s announcement naming Teralba as the preferred site for the Future Fleet manufacturing facility.
Dantia called it a tremendous opportunity for Lake Macquarie, the Hunter and NSW manufacturing.
Dantia CEO Tim Browne said the announcement was a great result for the region, with economic benefits that could reach well beyond the $12 billion Future Fleet program.
“This is a fantastic day for Lake Macquarie and the Hunter. In naming Teralba as its preferred site, the NSW Government has recognised a location that can do far more than manufacture trains. It can help grow an entire industry, supporting jobs, businesses and economic growth for generations. Teralba is the right place to make that happen,” Mr Browne said.
“Teralba has the land, the location and the connections to support a world-class facility, and real potential to draw new businesses and investment around it.”
Dantia has been a strong advocate for Teralba, including commissioning independent economic assessments of the potential for a broader employment precinct and the long-term benefits of Teralba compared with Broadmeadow.
The work identified significant gains: more private investment, more jobs, increased economic activity, higher productivity, and new opportunities for existing businesses to grow and new businesses to establish.
The facility would build on extensive rail manufacturing and engineering excellence in the Hunter, particularly at Cardiff. It would open new doors across advanced manufacturing, engineering, technology, professional services and research.
Mr Browne said the announcement was an exciting step forward, and the region was ready to make the most of it.
“The Hunter already has the skills, the businesses and the manufacturing know-how. This announcement gives us a platform to build on those strengths and bring in new investment.
Now it’s time to turn this momentum into real projects, new businesses and more local jobs.
Teralba can become a nationally significant manufacturing precinct, and by working together we can make that happen.”
Dantia congratulates the NSW Government on the announcement and thanks Lake Macquarie City Council, local MPs, industry and stakeholders for their strong advocacy. Dantia looks forward to supporting the next stages of investigation and planning, to bring the project to life and maximise its long-term benefits for the region.
