Dantia, Lake Macquarie’s Economic Development Company, today announced the appointment of a new board director to continue to drive growth, investment and employment for the Lake Macquarie economy.

New director Andrew Hutton, Managing Director and founder of Integrated Environmental Management Australia (IEMA), joins current board directors Wayne Lowe, Managing Director of FNZ Australia, Professor Alex Zelinsky AO, Vice-Chancellor and President of University of Newcastle, Councillor Kay Fraser, Mayor of Lake Macquarie City, Morven Cameron, Chief Executive Officer at Lake Macquarie City Council, Josh Jeffress, Managing Director of Design Anthology, Stephen Barr, Director of Barr Property and Planning, Annie Jiang, Founder and CEO at GO Circular, Jonathan Vandervoort and Jonathan Milgate, Chief Technology Officer, Camplify.

Dantia’s CEO Joshua Sattler said Andrew’s expertise regarding mine closure planning and rehabilitation would extend the reach and scale of Dantia’s capability in this critical area of diversification.

“Andrew is widely regarded as an expert in mine closure planning and rehabilitation. Mining is one of the most important industries in Lake Macquarie on several levels. The addition of Andrew to the existing board sets us up for this future,” Mr Sattler said.

“There are several existing non-operational mine sites within Lake Macquarie that would be suited to further commercial and residential development. Utilising some of these sites would greatly reduce the cost of delivering new housing and supporting infrastructure,” Mr Sattler said.

“A current example is the $85M BlackRock Motor Park. This is an example of adaptive re-use of mined land in Lake Macquarie representing significant social and economic benefits for the City, including 450+ jobs during construction and 220+ jobs ongoing,”

“As part of our collaboration with BlackRock, we have focused on positioning them as key global infrastructure poised to drive tourism economic growth. I look forward to having Andrew on the board to help drive this and similar projects.” Mr Sattler said.

Mr Hutton said he looks forward to bringing his expertise to the progressive Dantia Board.

“Lake Macquarie has a long association with mining.  Within the LGA, there are a number of already closed mines along with operating mines that will close into the future. At the end of the day mining is a temporary land use.  Closed mines and other larger industrial sites such as power stations provide a range of exciting opportunities when considering the reuse of that land.  They represent a significant social and economic opportunity to Lake Macquarie by ensuring we plan and support the transition of these sites to high value beneficial landuses.”
