Congratulations to Showtime Kayaking who received the Bronze award in the Ecotourism category at the recent 2025 NSW Tourism Awards
The category featured one of the most competitive fields of the night, with a dozen finalists representing a broad mix of operators across New South Wales. Securing a place on the podium in only its second year of operation highlights the growing recognition of ecotourism initiatives on Lake Macquarie.
The award acknowledges the practical steps Showtime has taken to integrate sustainability into the core of its operations. A key component is its partnership with Take 3 for the Sea, an organisation focused on reducing plastic pollution through community education and simple, actionable habits. On each tour, guests receive a clear explanation of the Take 3 message and are encouraged to apply the principle during their time on the lake.
Showtime also incorporates renewable energy into its nightly operations. The clear kayaks used on tour are fitted with lighting systems powered by rechargeable batteries. These batteries are recharged using solar panels on the roof of the kayak trailer. This reduces reliance on conventional power sources and helps minimise the environmental footprint associated with regular touring activity.
The Bronze award reflects how these measures, and many others, combine to support responsible tourism on Lake Macquarie. It recognises tangible practices rather than promotional claims, and it places Showtime within a broader statewide effort to strengthen environmental outcomes in the visitor economy. While still a young operator, the business has established a consistent approach to sustainability, community education, and low-impact adventure experiences.
